[Financial News] Suwon Samsung Bluewings set a new club record for consecutive wins in professional soccer’s K League 2, taking a major step toward a return to the top flight.
Suwon, led by head coach Lee Jung-hyo, beat Seongnam Football Club 2-0 away at Tancheon Sports Complex in Seongnam on the 25th, in Round 30 of the 2026 Bank of Hope K League 2. Kang Hyun-muk scored the opening and winning goal in the 26th minute of the first half, and an own goal by the opposition in the 42nd minute of the second half completed the victory.
With the win, Suwon extended its run to seven straight victories and 12 consecutive games unbeaten (9 wins and 3 draws). The seven-game streak is a new club record for consecutive wins in the regular league, surpassing the team’s six straight wins under former head coach Cha Bum-kun in 2007, 19 years ago.
Suwon also firmly cemented its position at the top. With 62 points on the season (19 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses), it opened up an 8-point gap over second-place Suwon FC, which was upset 0-1 by Chungnam Asan that day, and third-place Seoul E-Land (both on 54 points). With just 4 games remaining in the regular season, Suwon will secure the league title and direct promotion to K League 1 next season with 5 more points, regardless of the results of the teams below it. It will be just 3 years since the club suffered relegation in 2023.

The match was decided in the first half. In the 26th minute, Kang Hyun-muk put Suwon ahead with a clean header, finishing a cross from Reubon, who had broken down the left flank. Suwon, firmly in control, put the result beyond doubt in the 42nd minute of the second half when a cross from Luis, who had driven into the penalty area, struck Seongnam defender Lee Sang-min and went in as an own goal.
Seongnam, meanwhile, remained on 31 points after slipping into a run of five games without a win (1 draw and 4 losses). Suwon FC, whose 15-game unbeaten streak was snapped by a costly own goal from Dallen, will continue its nail-biting battle with Seoul E-Land for second place and direct promotion.
