[Financial News] With the U.S. midterm elections on Nov. 3 about a week away, President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama each took to the campaign trail in battlegrounds to support Republican and Democratic candidates, respectively, and traded sharp criticism of each other.
On the 24th (local time), at a Democratic campaign rally in Cleveland, Ohio, former President Obama criticized the second Trump administration as “two years of chaos, cruelty, corruption and incompetence unparalleled in modern history.”
In particular, he raised his voice over the Iran war that President Trump started, calling it “an unnecessary war that no one asked for or supported.” He said, “The war and tariff policies have fueled inflation,” and criticized President Trump for “focusing only on increasing the wealth of himself, his family and close associates rather than easing the cost-of-living burden on the public.”
This was the first time former President Obama had held large-scale in-person rallies during the midterm election campaign. After Ohio, he also visited Detroit, Michigan, to support Democratic candidates.

That same day, President Trump, speaking at a rally in Perry, Georgia, mocked former President Obama, saying, “He was in Michigan, and the venue was empty.”
He criticized the Iran nuclear deal struck under the Obama administration, saying, “It’s one of the worst deals ever. It was a path for Iran to get nuclear weapons,” and asserted, “We will ensure Iran never possesses nuclear weapons.”
