[Financial News] Typhoon No. 30 Champi brought strong winds and heavy rain to Jeju, causing a series of damages, both major and minor.
According to the Jeju Provincial Meteorological Administration on the 25th, the typhoon, which began on the 23rd, brought nearly 300 mm of rain accompanied by fierce winds to areas including Samgakbong on Hallasan. As a result, a tree was toppled by strong winds in Seohong-dong, Seogwipo, and an underground pump room was flooded in Andeok-myeon. Power lines also sagged over a road in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, a traffic signal’s support wire snapped in Gujwa-eup, and a greenhouse was flooded in Ihoil-dong.
The 2026 Aewol-eup Agricultural, Fisheries and Livestock Products Expo, which was scheduled to take place around Saebyeol Oreum, was canceled, as were the street parade and opening ceremony of the Seogwipo Chilsimni Festival. At Jeju International Airport, around 20 flights were canceled and around 200 were delayed. Passenger ferries serving Gapa, Marado and other islands suspended service, and all seven hiking trails in Hallasan National Park were closed.
The Korean Meteorological Administration forecast that rain would continue in Jeju through the morning of the 26th, with 30–80 mm of precipitation expected and at least 120 mm possible in some mountainous and mid-mountain areas. It also forecast very strong winds, with gusts of at least 20 m/s in areas under strong wind advisories and at least 25 m/s in mountainous areas.
