[Financial News] Lotte Department Store is opening a K-character pop-up store themed around guardian deities from traditional Korean folktales.
According to industry sources on the 25th, the pop-up will run at Jamsil Lotte World Mall through the 3rd of next month. It is the first offline pop-up in Korea for K-Monster, a brand that turns guardian deities from Korean folktales into characters, including the legendary creature Hechi.
Signature products include the “Fluffy Plush Key Ring,” popular for its soft feel, and “Letters from the Land of Morning,” a Hangul book for children.
K-Monster began as a brand after virtual characters it posted on social media (SNS) became popular. Purchase inquiries poured in after magazine accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers shared the characters one after another. The brand later began selling merchandise through its own online store.
Visitors to the pop-up will receive a limited-edition “K Guardian Deities Trading Card.”
Lim Ji-hyeon, a buyer on Lotte Department Store’s New Generation Team, said, “As interest in K-culture grows both at home and abroad, content incorporating Korean elements is gaining immense popularity,” adding, “We will continue to actively discover and nurture emerging K-brands and offer customers differentiated content experiences.”
