[Financial News] A shark named Bukangi, which had not been seen for a second day after leaving the artificial waterway at the waterfront park in Busan North Port, has been found again. It was swimming in a harbor about 2 km from where it was last sighted, and was confirmed to be in good health.
According to Yonhap News on the 24th, the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) found Bukangi in a harbor near the International Passenger Terminal after monitoring the Port of Busan area from midday until 3 p.m. that day. Bukangi had not been observed for a second day after moving out of the artificial waterway, but was seen swimming normally that day.
The place where Bukangi was found is a port facility closed to the general public. Although it is outside the artificial waterway, it is not in the open sea, and is about 2 km from Pier 1 of the Port of Busan, where Bukangi was last seen the previous morning.
Bukangi completely left the artificial waterway on the 22nd, after efforts to guide it toward the open sea had ended. It was then observed near North Port Pier 1 until the morning of the 23rd, but was not found again by the morning of the 24th, prompting speculation that it may have moved out to sea.
An official from the National Institute of Fisheries Science said of Bukangi’s current condition, “After living for more than a month in a narrow waterway with a depth of just 3 meters, Bukangi is now expanding its range of activity and adapting to a new environment. It has been confirmed to have no health problems.” The official added, “It appears Bukangi moved along the wall to this location after heading to deeper water. It is showing normal swimming behavior where it was found, and no external injuries were found.”
