[Financial News] A power bank overheated aboard a passenger plane bound for Jeju from Hong Kong, leaving one passenger with burns.
According to the Jeju Fire and Safety Headquarters, a report was received on the 25th that smoke had been seen coming from a power bank on a Hong Kong Express aircraft from Hong Kong, shortly before it was due to land at Jeju International Airport, at around 6:22 a.m.
The incident reportedly occurred as a passenger took out a power bank that had begun smoking while stored in a bag under a passenger seat. A Chinese woman in her 50s suffered burns to her left thumb.
At the time of the report, the aircraft was carrying a total of 243 people: 236 passengers and seven crew members. The crew placed the power bank in a heat-resistant containment bag designed for dealing with battery fires on board and immersed it in water.
Fire authorities, responding to the report, arrived at Jeju International Airport at around 6:32 a.m. and waited for the aircraft to land. They then confirmed there was no further fire risk on board and administered first aid to the injured passenger.
The injured passenger reportedly refused to be taken to a hospital and said she would go to one herself.
