【Financial News, Wonju = Kim Gi-seop】 Ninety-seven overseas buyer companies from 35 countries will gather in Wonju and hold roughly 1,000 meetings over two days with 83 export companies from the province.
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Wonju City said on the 25th that they will hold the 2026 Export Consultation Event Inviting Overseas Buyers at Hotel Inter-Burgo Wonju from the 27th to the 28th. Now in its fourth edition, the event directly helps companies enter overseas markets by matching local export companies one-to-one with prominent overseas buyers and arranging consultations.
Eighty-three companies from the province will take part in six sectors, including food, beauty and medical devices. Around 1,000 export consultations will be held during the event, alongside exhibitions of company products, and overseas influencers are expected to promote products through live broadcasts from the venue.
The invited buyers were selected after preliminary vetting. Gangwon Province held online consultation events twice, in August and September, meeting with 200 buyers. It then selected buyers for this event based on factors including their past contract records with local export companies and creditworthiness. This year, it also expanded its pool of buyers by bringing in overseas buyers from the Overseas Koreans Agency's network. The province aims to boost actual contract results by taking into account as much as possible recommendations from its overseas offices and the buyers sought by local companies.
Kim Mun-gi, head of Gangwon Province's Economic Bureau, said, “Because these buyers were selected from among 200 after a careful review of their contract records and creditworthiness through two rounds of online consultations, the likelihood of this event leading to actual deals is higher than ever. For export companies, securing customers who will buy their products consistently is just as important as having good products, and I hope this event will help further broaden the province's export base.”
