[Financial News] A daughter in her 40s suspected of killing her mother in Seoul's Gangseo District has been arrested.
Legal sources said on the 25th that Yoon Jae-nam, a presiding judge at the Seoul Southern District Court, held a pre-arrest suspect examination (hearing on the arrest warrant) at around 3 p.m. the previous day for Park, a woman in her 40s suspected of parricide, and issued an arrest warrant, saying, "There is a risk of flight."
Park did not answer reporters' questions, including, "Do you admit to the charges?" as she appeared at court.
Park is suspected of killing her mother, who was in her 60s, at their home in Ujangsan-dong, Gangseo District, on the 22nd.
Police responded to Park's self-report at around 8:15 a.m. on the day of the crime and arrested her at the scene around 8:40 a.m. When she first reported the incident, Park said, "I did something bad to my stepmother," so she was initially suspected of murder. However, after police later confirmed that Park and the victim were biological mother and daughter, the suspected offense was changed to parricide.
After police arrived at the scene, Park's daughter also made a report from outside, saying, "Mom is saying strange things, and Grandma isn't answering the phone."
Only Park and the victim were at home when the crime occurred. Investigators found that four family members normally lived there.
Police obtained a statement from the bereaved family saying that Park had at times told the victim to leave or sworn at her, expressing negative feelings toward her. However, no financial or grudge-related ties have been confirmed.
Police completed the first round of questioning on the 22nd, and Park is understood to have denied the crime.
