[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled the possibility of carrying out additional military operations against Iran. While claiming that an end to the war with Iran is near, he warned that military force could be used again if negotiations do not take place. He also indicated that after resolving the Iran issue, he would turn to putting pressure on Cuba.
At a campaign rally in Fort Myers, Florida, on the 23rd (local time), President Trump urged Iran to reach a deal, saying, “Another small ‘Operation Epic Fury’ could be carried out.” “Operation Epic Fury” is the name of the U.S. military operation against Iran that has been conducted since last February.
He claimed that Iran had been defeated militarily and financially, and reiterated his position that Iran must be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons.
President Trump’s remarks are seen as pressuring Iran to negotiate an end to the war while leaving open the possibility of further airstrikes. Trump previously said he would not attack Iran before next month’s midterm elections. U.S. media have also reported that military operations against Iran are being considered for after the midterms.
President Trump referred to the Russia-Ukraine war and the war with Iran, claiming that an end to both wars was drawing closer.
He also continued to make hard-line remarks about Cuba. He said he would deal with Cuba on his way back from Iran, and claimed that Cuba would surrender if U.S. warships were positioned close to its coast. He also mentioned a plan to send Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is of Cuban descent, to resolve the issue.
However, President Trump had previously expressed skepticism about the need for military action, saying that Cuba’s government could collapse on its own under U.S. economic sanctions. It is unclear whether these remarks will lead to actual military action.
