New York stocks fell across the board on the 23rd (local time). Fears that the United States and Israel would soon resume airstrikes on Iran drove international oil prices up more than 3%, dampening investor sentiment.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), which had closed with modest gains the previous day, fell 1.23% that day, the steepest decline among the three major indexes.
The technology-heavy S&P 500 and NASDAQ indexes posted relatively modest declines that day.
Meanwhile, market heavyweight NVIDIA fell 0.6%, but semiconductor stocks managed to rebound.
NASDAQ turns lower late in the session
The DJIA closed at 52,215.16, down 652.82 points (1.23%) from the previous session.

On a weekly basis, the indexes moved in opposite directions for the second week in a row.
The DJIA, which posted a weekly gain of 0.7% last week, rose another 0.4% this week.
By contrast, the S&P 500 and NASDAQ, which had recorded weekly losses of 2% and 4.5%, respectively, fell a further 0.47% and 0.71%, respectively, this week.
The NASDAQ-100 Index, comprising 100 large-cap technology stocks, was little changed from the previous day. It closed at 28,957.53, down 1.16 points (0.00%). TQQQ, a leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks three times the index’s daily moves, closed at $66.29, down $0.13 (0.20%).

SOXL, a leveraged ETF that tracks three times the daily moves of 30 major semiconductor stocks, closed at $83.59, up $1.48 (1.80%).
