On Saturday the 24th, heavy rain of up to 30 mm per hour is forecast, mainly in Jeju and along the southern coast. Torrential rain is expected in Jeju through the morning and along the coasts of South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang through the late afternoon. Strong winds of at least 20 m/s are expected in Jeju, and waves higher than 5 meters in some coastal waters could disrupt air and ship services.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, as of 10 p.m. on the 23rd, rain was falling at around 10 mm per hour in Jeju and at less than 5 mm per hour in South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang. Light rain was also falling in some areas of North Jeolla and North Gyeongsang.
Rain will continue through the 24th, mainly in the southern regions and Jeju. In particular, heavy rain of 20–30 mm per hour is expected in Jeju through the morning of the 24th, with some areas along the southern coast of South Jeolla and the coast of South Gyeongsang likely to see around 20 mm per hour from the morning through the late afternoon.
Some rain is expected along the southern East Coast of Gangwon State and in its mountainous areas from the morning through the afternoon of the 24th, and in southeastern South Chungcheong and central and southern North Chungcheong in the afternoon. Raindrops are expected elsewhere in the Chungcheong region.
The Korean Meteorological Administration urged caution, warning that autumn leaves could block drains and cause flooding in low-lying areas. People should avoid flood-prone areas such as riverside paths and underpasses and be prepared for landslides, falling rocks and retaining wall collapses.
A strong wind advisory is in effect for Jeju, where gusts are expected to reach at least 20 m/s in areas other than the west and at least 25 m/s in mountainous areas. The advisory could be extended to western Jeju from the early hours of the 24th. Strong winds with gusts of around 15 m/s are also expected along the southern coast.
Winds of 8–18 m/s and waves of 1.5–3.5 meters are expected in waters around Jeju, the outer waters of the eastern South Sea and the southern outer waters of the southern West Sea. In particular, waves in the far southern waters off Jeju and the outer waters of the eastern South Sea could reach 5 meters or higher from the night of the 23rd, and a high seas warning may be issued.
On the 24th, marine weather advisories could be extended to the outer waters of the western South Sea and the northern coastal waters off Jeju, among other areas. Swells are expected to continue along the southern coast and the coast of Jeju for the time being, and along the east coast on the 24th, with waves overtopping breakwaters or rocky shores in some places.
The morning low on the 24th will be 8–17°C, similar to or slightly higher than the previous day. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the central regions and generally overcast in the southern regions and Jeju.
