[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung stressed on the 23rd, after meeting a delegation of Japanese business leaders, that cooperation between South Korea and Japan on advanced-industry supply chains is essential.
Kim Seong-wan, Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson, said in a written briefing that President Lee met that afternoon at Cheong Wa Dae with the Japanese delegation to the Korea-Japan Business Council, including Yoshinobu Tsutsui, chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren).
President Lee praised the business communities of the two countries for contributing to economic growth through close ties and cooperation, and expressed his gratitude to businesspeople. He went on to stress that South Korea and Japan are important countries and that cooperation between them is essential for advanced-industry supply chains.
He said he hoped that, just as the two countries have engaged in active shuttle diplomacy between their leaders, they would also expand exchanges between their business communities and among their people in order to develop a mutually beneficial relationship.
Chairman Tsutsui said people-to-people exchanges between the two countries exceeded 13 million last year, setting a new record, and that exchanges were growing stronger. He also said that the importance of cooperation among countries with similar positions was increasing amid turmoil in the international economic order.
He said that although South Korea-Japan relations had gone through difficult periods, the business communities of both countries had expressed their resolve to continue cooperating through the Korea-Japan Business Council, which is holding its 33rd meeting this year.
President Lee said mutual favorability among the peoples of the two countries was increasing and urged the governments and business communities of South Korea and Japan to work together to expand future-oriented economic cooperation.
