[Financial News] Busan Health University’s Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry is adding a heartwarming touch by delivering delicious red bean buns made by adult-class learners to local children’s centers, Sonyeonui Jip, and other organizations.
Busan Health University’s Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry, chaired by Woo Hee-seop, who also heads the Seo-gu Career Education Support Center, said on the 23rd that adult-class learners had donated 340 sets of red bean buns they made themselves, worth 3.9 million won, to the Busan Seo-gu Office, Sonyeonui Jip, and the Mansa Sonyeon Association on the 21st.
They put the skills they had developed in their major courses to use in sharing with local children and teens, extending warmth to their neighbors.
Learners in the first and second years of the adult program for the 2026 academic year took part in the activity.
Senior and junior students paired up as mentors and mentees, shared baking skills and hands-on experience, and worked together to complete the bread for donation.

For the senior students, it was an opportunity to share the skills they had learned with their juniors; for the juniors, it was a chance to learn from their seniors’ experience and build practical skills.
The initiative took on added significance because adult learners gave back to the local community with the fruits of their learning.
The learners went beyond acquiring skills individually, working together toward a shared goal and seeing that the skills they had learned could help their neighbors. In effect, the collaborative learning that took place in the practice kitchen led to action benefiting the local community.
Student representatives attended a handover ceremony held in front of the main building of the Busan Seo-gu Office and delivered bread made with care by the learners. The donations comprised 200 sets for the Seo-gu Office, worth 2.5 million won; 50 sets for Sonyeonui Jip, worth 500,000 won; and 90 sets for the Mansa Sonyeon Association, worth 900,000 won.
The bread donated to the Busan Seo-gu Office will be distributed through its Welfare Policy Division to local children’s centers and community care centers in the district.
The bread delivered to Sonyeonui Jip and the Mansa Sonyeon Association will also be provided to children and teens at each organization. The care and encouragement baked into the handmade bread are expected to bring a little joy to the children’s everyday lives.
The activity demonstrated how adult learners’ education could be put to use in the local community, serving as an example of a university linking academic instruction with community service.
It also helped strengthen ties among department members as senior and junior students learned and shared together, while giving them an opportunity to engage with the local community.
Woo Hee-seop, chair of Busan Health University’s Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry, said, “I hope the bread, made with care by adult-class learners, will be a gift that brings warmth, joy, and happiness to local children,” adding, “We will continue our sharing activities with the local community on a regular basis.”
