[Financial News] Mrs. Kim Hye-kyung said on the 23rd, “Korean cuisine is now reaching beyond our tables to tables around the world,” emphasizing its global spread and the preservation of tradition.
In her congratulatory remarks at the inaugural Korean Food Day ceremony held in the Grand Auditorium of the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Mrs. Kim said, “I hope this Korean Food Day will serve as a meaningful occasion for Korean cuisine to share even more of its appeal with the world and for the beauty of our culture to become more widely known.”
Speaking about the communal spirit embodied in Korean cuisine, Mrs. Kim said, “Since ancient times, we have gathered around a table with family or neighbors, sharing our affection and experiencing joys and sorrows together.”
She added, “After making kimchi for the winter, we would share a container of it with one another and share our affection; when someone moved or on a festive occasion, we would also distribute rice cakes. In this way, we have conveyed our feelings to one another through Korean cuisine,” she said.
She urged, “I hope that, with the establishment of Korean Food Day, the warmth embodied in our food will be passed down to future generations for a long, long time.” She also expressed her gratitude to those who have helped promote the value of Korean cuisine.
After the ceremony, Mrs. Kim visited an interactive booth at the Hansik Grand Festival in the museum’s Mirror Pond Plaza. With the spouses of the ambassadors of Mexico, Peru and Turkmenistan to South Korea, she made dried persimmon rolls stuffed with walnuts and sampled sujeonggwa. She also posed for a commemorative photo holding the dried persimmon rolls she had made.
