[Financial News] People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk said on the 23rd, after Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon was acquitted in the appeal of the case over the alleged proxy payment of Myeong Tae-gyun’s polling costs, “Justice has prevailed,” adding, “The appeal to the Supreme Court should be dropped immediately.”
Jang wrote on social media that the following were President Lee Jae Myung’s words: “Prosecutors are indicting people over things that make no sense, and when acquittals are handed down, they appeal and seek further appeals to shield themselves from accountability, causing suffering to the people.” He added, “The special counsel who brought charges over things that make no sense must be held responsible.”
He continued, “The person who should be on trial is not Mayor Oh. The criminal who should be on trial is President Lee Jae Myung himself,” and called for “Lee Jae Myung’s trial to resume immediately.”
People Power Party floor leader Chung Jeom-sik told reporters at the National Assembly that day, “Today’s ruling has once again proved that Myeong Tae-gyun is a liar.” He added, “The Democratic Party, which for the past two years has incited the public and made them anxious by using this liar as its mouthpiece, must reflect on its actions and apologize.”
He continued, “The true nature of the excessive targeted investigation and politically motivated indictment by Special Counsel Min Joung-kie, which relied entirely on Myeong Tae-gyun’s statements, has been laid bare.” He added, “From the coercive investigation that drove a Yangpyeong County official to their death, to the concealment of the fact that Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo received a Cartier watch and the indictment of Mayor Oh, Special Counsel Min Joung-kie has been tainted by biased investigations and political indictments and must apologize to the people.”
Chung called on the Supreme Court, saying, “The case involving Mrs. Kim Hye-kyung’s violation of the Public Official Election Act has been pending before the Supreme Court for 1 year and 5 months, in violation of the 6-3-3 principle, while the Political Funds Act case involving Kim Yong, deputy director of the Institute for Democracy, has been on trial for 1 year and 8 months.” He added, “I urge the court not to yield to pressure from those in power and to promptly conclude the trials of Mrs. Kim and Deputy Director Kim before the final ruling in Mayor Oh’s case.”
