[Financial News] Busan Port Authority (BPA) said on the 23rd that it had attended the “2026 World Port Authorities Meeting (PAR)” held in Perth, Australia, on the 22nd, where it discussed ways to cooperate with major ports around the world on shared issues facing the port industry.
PAR is an annual consultative forum for major port authorities around the world, launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore in 2015. Busan Port Authority is the only South Korean participant.
This year’s meeting, the 11th, was hosted by Pilbara Ports Authority in Australia. Port authorities from around 20 major ports worldwide attended, including Busan, Singapore, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Long Beach and Barcelona.
The meeting discussed three key agenda items, focusing on cooperation and joint responses among global ports: digital transformation and innovation, decarbonization of the shipping industry, and strengthening port systems in an era of uncertainty.
Participants shared each port’s experience and plans for responding to challenges, including improving port operating efficiency and data connectivity through digital technology, transitioning to low-carbon operations, and strengthening the resilience of global supply chains.
Lee Eung-hyeok, head of the International Logistics Support Office, who attended on behalf of Busan Port, introduced Chain Portal, an integrated logistics information platform and one of Busan Port’s leading examples of digital innovation, in a presentation titled “Strengthening Busan Port’s Transshipment Competitiveness Through the Port Community System (PCS).” PCS is a digital information system that enables port users—including shipping lines, terminal operators and transport companies—to share and use real-time information related to vessel operations and cargo handling.
He said, “Real-time information sharing among port users through Chain Portal supports the smooth coordination of vessels and cargo, as well as rapid transshipment between terminals,” and shared the results of efforts to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of Busan Port’s transshipment operations through the platform.
BPA President Song Sang-geun said, “It was a good opportunity to showcase Busan Port’s digital innovation capabilities at a forum where major ports around the world respond to supply chain uncertainty and discuss ways to cooperate.”
