[Financial News] The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) announced on the 22nd that Kim Dae-jung, its head of standardization, was elected chair of the Project Coordination Group (PCG) for 2027 at the 57th international meeting of the 3GPP PCG. 3GPP is an international mobile communications standards body. The PCG is 3GPP’s top-level body, responsible for setting overall 3GPP standardization policy, including approving and managing the scope of standardization activities, managing standardization work procedures, giving final approval to standardization items at technical plenary meetings, and coordinating with external organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Since 2024, Kim has served as a 3GPP chief delegate and actively supported domestic member companies’ 3GPP standardization activities.

In particular, he has worked to strengthen Korea’s competitiveness in mobile communications standardization, including by expanding cooperation with overseas standards bodies in the United States, Europe, Japan, China and India. In the early stages of 6G standardization, he worked with domestic member companies to lead efforts to prevent technological fragmentation through a joint declaration in support of a single 6G standard, as well as discussions on improving organizational efficiency in response to 3GPP’s growing influence.
In particular, as 3GPP’s operational strategies have become more sophisticated and its ecosystem more diverse, including with legal issues concerning datasets for use in AI-based communications standards, he has strengthened cooperation among chief representatives of standardization bodies to enable Korean member companies to lead discussions centered on the United States and Europe.
TTA said the appointment as chair of the top-level coordinating committee recognized the contributions made through active participation in discussions on 3GPP operational policy.
TTA President Son Seung-hyeon said, “It is very encouraging to assume the chairmanship of 3GPP’s top-level committee in 2027, an important year in which full-scale standards development for 6G technology is coming into view.” He added, “Drawing on its varied experience in global standardization leadership, TTA will fulfill its role in helping our industries take the lead in 6G standardization.”
