[Financial News] The Cargo Welfare Foundation will cover part of the cost of installing or replacing accident-detection devices on trucks carrying hazardous materials. The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) will identify vehicles whose devices need replacement and notify them, as well as promote the foundation’s support program for communication-enabled digital tachographs (DTGs). The aim is to ease the financial burden on transport workers while strengthening safety management for vehicles carrying hazardous materials, which could be involved in major accidents.
According to TS on the 23rd, TS Chairman Yong-Sik Jung and Cargo Welfare Foundation Chairman Gwang-sik Choi signed the “Agreement on Strengthening Safety Management for Vehicles Transporting Hazardous Materials and Improving the Welfare of Transport Workers” the previous day.
Under the agreement, the foundation will provide subsidies when vehicles transporting hazardous materials install a device for the first time or replace one. TS will identify and notify vehicles whose devices need replacing, and help raise awareness of the foundation’s program among transport workers. The two organizations expect the subsidies to significantly ease transport workers’ financial burden and also help manage vehicles transporting hazardous materials.
Chairman Jung said, “I hope this agreement will provide practical assistance to transport workers operating vehicles carrying hazardous materials,” and added, “We will strengthen various forms of cooperation with relevant agencies to protect the public’s lives and property from traffic accidents involving vehicles transporting hazardous materials, which can cause large-scale damage.”
