【Hanoi (Vietnam) = Correspondent Kim Joon-seok】Samsung Electronics has successfully completed the 2026 phase of its Smart Factory Development Cooperation Project in southern Vietnam, which aims to strengthen the manufacturing competitiveness of local Vietnamese companies and support their participation in global supply chains.
According to Samsung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. on the 23rd, Samsung Electronics held a ceremony on the 21st at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade headquarters to mark the completion of the 2026 Smart Factory Development Cooperation Project in southern Vietnam. Attendees included Cha Ji-ho, head of Samsung Electronics Vietnam’s Purchasing Center and a vice president, and Ha Ban-ut, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, as well as city government officials and representatives of participating local companies.
Launched on May 12 this year, the project aimed to strengthen the production and management capabilities of local Vietnamese companies and support their digital transformation through shop-floor improvements, process standardization, and the adoption of customized information technology (IT) solutions.
Four major local companies based in southern Vietnam took part in the program: Viet Uc Plastic and Machinery, Cap Thai Production and Trading, SMC Phu My Precision Machinery, and SIBA High-Tech Machinery Group. They received consulting support on digitizing production, quality, equipment, and logistics data; standardizing operating procedures; improving workplace layouts; and establishing management indicators. This helped lay the groundwork for better monitoring of production sites and stronger collaboration between departments.
Vice President Cha said, “I hope this smart factory project will serve as an opportunity to lay the foundation for long-term cooperation among Samsung Electronics, the Vietnamese government, and local companies. Through this, we will promote technological improvements and workforce development, enhance companies’ competitiveness, and support Vietnamese businesses in participating more deeply in global supply chains.”
Vice President Cha added, “In the next phase, the participating companies plan to continue upgrading their systems and standardizing data while ensuring the stable operation of related IT applications. They will continue monitoring indicators related to production, quality, equipment, and inventory to assess the project’s impact and carry on with improvement efforts.”
The Smart Factory Development Cooperation Project is a flagship win-win partnership program jointly pursued by Samsung Electronics and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam since 2022 to foster Vietnam’s supporting industries. In 2026, the project involved 14 local companies in total: 10 in northern Vietnam and four in the south. Since the project began, 96 Vietnamese companies have received Samsung Electronics’ smart factory consulting support, and at least about 240 local smart factory specialists have been trained.
