The exhibition is organized into four sections around the university's founding philosophy, Dongjwamundo, devised by founder Dr. Jeong Jae-hwan and meaning “to ask and seek the truth together.”
The first section highlights the founder and the university's history, while the second presents how the university became established through stories of people and archival materials. The third explores Dong-A University's impact on and contributions to the local community, and the fourth presents the university's present and future vision.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the founder's death, around 15 pieces of nationally designated cultural heritage will also be displayed, including Busan's first National Treasure, the 'Simjibaek Gaegukwonjong Gongsin Nokgwon,' which the founder donated to the university; the National Treasure 'Donggwoldo'; and the Treasures 'Calligraphy by An Jung-geun: When Seeing Gain, Think of Righteousness; When Facing Danger, Give Your Life,' 'Embroidered Chochungdo Folding Screen,' and 'Goryeosa.'
In conjunction with the exhibition, Seokdang Art Museum will also hold a special exhibition featuring around 50 works by Dong-A University faculty members and alumni artists.
Paintings, sculptures, and crafts by faculty members including Lee Du-ok, Oh Nang-ja, and Gu Ja-hong, and alumni artists including Kang Byeong-hun, Heo Pil-seok, and Shin Mu-gyeong, will be on display. Visitors can see together the historical fruits of the university's contributions to the development of regional arts and culture since it established the Yeongnam region's first department of fine arts in 1965.
“To mark the university's 80th anniversary, the museum and art museum have for the first time prepared simultaneous special exhibitions under the same theme,” said Lee Ju-hyeon, director of Seokdang Museum. “This is a meaningful opportunity to view two National Treasures, numerous Treasures, and the university's valuable historical materials and photographs together, and we hope citizens and local residents will show great interest and come to see them.”
The exhibition runs from the 27th through December 27. It is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Mondays, when it is closed. Admission is free.
