[Financial News] GS Group Chairman Huh Tae-soo stressed that work and processes should be designed from the outset around digital technology, rather than simply adding it to existing work. He made the remarks at the Deep Transformation Day (DT Day) hosted by GS Caltex. At the event, which was also attended by GS Caltex Vice Chairman Saehong Hur, employees shared examples of digital transformation they had pursued, including AI-based job training and improvements at production sites.
GS Caltex said on the 23rd that it had held the 4th DT Day at its headquarters in GS Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 22nd, under the theme “Our Übermensch.”
DT Day is an internal event where employees share the outcomes and experiences of innovation projects they have directly pursued. This year, the company set up 15 exhibition booths to showcase a range of cases, from work improvements using AI and digital technologies to production-site initiatives and company-wide strategic projects.
Key examples included an AI-based job training tutor using the Socratic method of questioning, applications of physical AI within the company—including drones, robots and smart helmets—and a system for preparing research reports using multiple AI agents.
At production sites, employees shared an energy-saving initiative at the GS Caltex Yeosu Plant and a data-driven project to optimize the catalyst procurement process. Company-wide initiatives were also presented, including the development of a next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that integrates and redesigns processes, data and systems, and a co-processing process for biofuel production.
A case was presented involving the development of an AI tutor that applies trends and reference examples in digital and AI transformation (DAX), which Vice Chairman Hur has shared internally, to job training in employees’ respective fields. The Mobility & Marketing Division developed “AiQ+,” integrating 12 job training courses. The Production Division developed the “Socratic AI Tutor” to support junior engineers’ on-site learning, while the Finance Office developed the “Finance Office AI Tutor” to enhance professional expertise.
Chairman Huh, who attended the event, said, “We need a shift in perspective: rather than simply adding digital technology to existing work, we should design work and processes from the outset with digital technology at their foundation. I hope you will use digital technology to connect work, respond to change and achieve good results.”
Vice Chairman Hur also toured the exhibition booths and exchanged views with employees who had pursued the projects. He said, “The challenges taken on by each individual member add up to create innovation and shape the future of the company as a whole. When the changes made by going beyond existing limits in each person’s role are connected and spread, they can lead to GS Caltex’s growth.”
