[Financial News] With rumors of discord among players on the national soccer team discussed at a parliamentary audit, soccer commentator Park Moon-sung called for those involved to publicly explain themselves. Since the controversy has already spread beyond the team, the players concerned should state their positions directly, he said.
On the 22nd, Park discussed internal tensions within the national team and the controversy surrounding the so-called “No. 7 player” on the YouTube channel Dalsu’s Live.
He criticized the fact that a private matter between players had been discussed publicly at a parliamentary audit, asking rhetorically, “Is this something that should be discussed at a parliamentary audit?” He added, “I’m not criticizing the audit itself, but didn’t this, in any case, stoke the flames?”
He criticized how the controversy had only grown, with the problem left unresolved even after tensions within the national team became public. Park said, “Now that it’s being bandied about at the audit, what has that achieved? Has the situation improved?” He added, “Isn’t it strange that things that should have stayed within the team keep leaking out and being discussed?”
He also pointed to the leaking of private conversations between players. “Even the fact that Kim Min-jae apologized in the earlier KakaoTalk group chat was leaked. What are we doing?” he said. “What are people trying to achieve by repeatedly exposing relationship issues? I’m not interested in whether they get along or not.”
However, he argued that now that the controversy had spread through the parliamentary audit and media coverage, it would be difficult to resolve the problem within the national team alone.
Park said, “It has come up at the audit and is being reported in the news.” He added, “I think the line has already been crossed; resolving this internally doesn’t seem possible.”
He believes the players concerned should explain the facts themselves to put an end to the controversy. Park said, “We have to bring this to a close one way or another,” and called for “the players who were named to bring it to a close by publicly stating their positions, among other things.”
He also took issue with players’ positions being conveyed indirectly to the outside, stressing, “They should state their positions themselves, without letting them leak out.”
He stressed that the conflict needed to be resolved quickly, given that the Asian Cup is scheduled for next January. Park said, “Imagine if they cover it up again or quietly brush it aside. The Asian Cup is in January,” and asked rhetorically, “How is the team supposed to compete in the Asian Cup in this atmosphere?”
He added, “A clear solution needs to be worked out during this period,” and said, “They need to speak publicly, through explanations, announcements, clarifications, and the like.”
