Financial industry sources said on the 23rd that Woori Bank held a results-sharing event the previous day at the Korea YMCA Federation in Jongno-gu, Seoul, for its 2025 Woori Impact Challenge support program, carried out in partnership with the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency (KOSEA).
The Woori Impact Challenge is a program that identifies social economy enterprises providing services and jobs to vulnerable groups and supports their growth.
Woori Bank held a contest last December and, after a review, selected 10 social economy enterprises working to address local community issues in a range of fields, including agri-food, care, the environment and employment for people with disabilities. It provided a total of 130 million won in project funding to the selected enterprises, up to 20 million won per enterprise.
The total number of employees at the 10 participating enterprises increased by six, including new hires from vulnerable groups. Woori Bank expects the support to strengthen the enterprises’ self-sufficiency and growth foundations, leading to further job creation in the future.
At the results-sharing event, the enterprises shared their business results and operating experience and explored opportunities for collaboration. Woori Bank plans to expand exchanges among the participating enterprises to support sustainable growth and the spread of social value.
Cha Jae-beom, deputy head of Woori Bank’s ESG Inclusive Finance Department, said, “Over the next five years, Woori Financial Group is pursuing the Future Shared Growth Project, investing a total of 90 trillion won to expand productive and inclusive finance. We will continue to support social economy enterprises that lead efforts to assist vulnerable groups and address social issues, so they can grow steadily, and fulfill finance’s social responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group supplied 34.7 trillion won through productive and inclusive finance within one year of launching the Future Shared Growth Project. Going forward, Woori Financial Group plans to increase the share of funding allocated to small and medium-sized businesses and regional businesses, alongside the overall volume of funding, and expand support for vulnerable groups linked to employment and welfare.
