[Financial News] Kakao Corp. will add a “Quiet Profile Update” feature to KakaoTalk by the end of the year, allowing users to change their profiles without notifying friends.
According to News1 on the 23rd, Kakao Corp. said, “A feature that lets users quietly change their profiles so their friends aren’t notified is expected to be added.”
Currently, when users change their profiles on KakaoTalk, a list of friends who have recently updated their profiles appears in the “Updated Profiles” section at the top of the “Friends” tab. With the new feature, users will be able to choose not to notify their friends when they change their profile pictures.
Last year, Kakao Corp. revamped KakaoTalk’s Friends tab into a feed centered on profile pictures and posts. However, after users continued to voice their opposition, the company redesigned the tab again and restored the existing friends list as the first screen.
Last May, Kakao Corp. launched a “User First Task Force” (TF) and stepped up communication with users. It later launched the “KakaoTalk Now” page to share users’ views and added a channel through which they can submit their opinions directly. The new feature was also announced through this page.
A Kakao Corp. representative explained, “The Quiet Profile Update feature is expected to be added by the end of this year,” adding, “It may affect the feed feature, but users can already set who can see their profile pictures when they change them.”
