According to Miral Welfare Foundation on the 23rd, an appointment ceremony for the couple as ambassadors was held at the foundation in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 21st. The couple looked back on the campaigns and volunteer work they had taken part in and signed a pledge after choosing sharing activities they would undertake together in the future.
Their connection with the foundation began in 2019 with the “Gibu-mi” campaign, which used proceeds from rice sales to support medical expenses for children with disabilities. They later took part in the “KB Spring Project,” which promotes the work of young artists with disabilities, volunteered and donated their skills at Goodwill Store, and worked as assistant teachers for a day at an inclusive daycare center for children with and without disabilities.
Developmentally disabled artist Kim Ji-woo attended the appointment ceremony that day and presented the couple with a “giant curry spoon.” The gift called to mind the “Curry Hansang” campaign, through which the couple raised money for medical expenses for children with disabilities by sharing curry they had made themselves with the public.
Kim Jae-woo formed a connection with the artist after interviewing her for the “Spring Project” in 2019, and they took part in a campaign together again in 2022. The foundation’s arts group “Bridge On Arte,” to which the artist belongs, also provides workplace disability-awareness training through exhibitions and art activities.
Kim Jae-woo and Cho Yu-ri said, “By taking part in various activities together, we have actually received more comfort and learned more,” adding, “We will continue to do what we can so that more people take an interest in the stories of people with disabilities and their families and join in sharing.”
