[Financial News] Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon warned that he would take civil and criminal legal action against Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Park Gyun-taek, who raised allegations that the “school bullying case involving Han’s son” had been covered up.
In a post on his social media account (SNS) on the afternoon of the 22nd, Han criticized Park, saying, “After coming after me like a pack of dogs using my daughter in an attempt to take me down and failing, this time he has once again dragged out the false smear that my underage son is a school bullying perpetrator, hiding behind parliamentary immunity.”
He added, “Because this is obviously completely untrue, Hwang Un-ha (Rebuilding Korea Party) tried to make a false accusation on the day before early voting in the last general election, but gave up and ran away. Jeon Yeo-ok was investigated by police for talking about school bullying on YouTube and spreading false information; after it was determined to be false, she was referred to prosecutors with a recommendation for indictment. A civil damages lawsuit is also underway.”
He continued, saying, “Park is hiding behind parliamentary immunity and attacking me in a despicable way. The more I see of him, the more vulgar and pathetic he seems,” and angrily added, “Am I really that frightening? I will take strong civil and criminal legal action over the vicious spread of false information about a minor, including against everyone who merely circulated it.”
Han posted again, saying, “Today, Park brought forward a text message of unknown origin and claimed that my underage son had written it, making personal attacks on my minor son. The person who circulated that unidentified screenshot, claiming to have obtained it from online communities and elsewhere, is apparently a juvenile offender with a mental illness who attacked lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin (People Power Party) and inflicted serious injuries on her.” He criticized them, asking, “Democratic Party and Representative Park, do you want to conduct politics in such a filthy way?”
He reiterated, “I will take civil and criminal legal action without exception against anyone who spreads false information about a minor, including those who merely circulate it.”
Earlier that day, Park again raised allegations during a National Assembly audit by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee that Han and his spouse had covered up their son’s school bullying case.
During the committee’s questioning in its audit of the Public Prosecution Office, Park said, “The school bullying case involving Han Dong-hoon and his wife—or these people—was dismissed,” and added, “The school management committee member responsible for school bullying was Han Dong-hoon’s spouse, and it seems that the spouse blocked their son’s case while serving on the committee.”
He continued, “What was problematic about the son was that a text message showed up on a YouTube broadcast in which he bragged as if his father were someone who would become the next president.” He added, “There are also comments in which he brags as if he were someone who could summon a conglomerate owner and make them kneel. That culture, that family culture, has a real problem.”
He said, “Can that senior prosecutor just leave after having this dismissed right before a democratic government is established?” He urged them to “find out what really happened and why the case was handled that way, and to pay attention to this matter as well so that materials can be provided later, since I expect it will eventually become a subject of investigation by the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency or the police.”
Earlier, Han and his spouse were accused of abuse of authority by obstructing the exercise of rights and of violating the School Violence Prevention Act in connection with allegations of school bullying involving their son, but prosecutors closed the case by dismissing it in May last year.
