[Financial News] As Kwangwoon University prepares to unveil its future education vision centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics on the upcoming 29th and make official its plans to host a major international robotics competition in 2027, Henk Rogers, who brought the globally popular game ‘Tetris’ to a mass audience, will deliver a special lecture.
Kwangwoon University said on the 22nd that it will hold the ‘Kwangwoon AI and Robotics Future Education Vision Declaration Ceremony’ on the afternoon of the 29th at Kwangwoon Square on its main campus in Nowon-gu, Seoul. At the event, the university will present ‘an AI and robotics university that nurtures people’ as its new goal and unveil plans to combine its robotics capabilities with AI and extend them into industry and the local community. It will also announce the launch of the ‘RoboFest World Championship Seoul,’ scheduled for May 2027.
Henk Rogers, who will deliver the special lecture that day, traveled to the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and secured the rights to Tetris for Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s Game Boy, helping it become a global hit. His dramatic, real-life story of negotiations was also made into a film in 2023. Kwangwoon University invited him to share with future generations his experience of taking on challenges to turn an idea into a global industry. In his lecture, Rogers will convey the value of innovation in taking on an uncertain future and forging new paths.
A variety of hands-on activities for local residents and students to enjoy together will also be offered at the event. The program will include a demonstration of a robot arm drawing pictures, an exhibition of large robots, a robot dog experience zone and a humanoid photo zone. A talk concert with popular science YouTuber JoCoding will also be held. Kwangwoon University plans to use the event to build an AI and robotics education ecosystem in which the local community and the education sector participate together.
