[Financial News] Travel YouTuber Gilbadak, beloved by subscribers for budget-friendly backpacking content, has been out of contact for more than a year. As speculation that Gilbadak was kidnapped or had come to harm mounted, even a broadcaster began searching for the YouTuber’s whereabouts.
On the 21st, the production team of SBS’s current affairs program Y-Story posted a request for tips on its official website, saying, “We are waiting to hear from YouTuber Gilbadak or people close to them.”
Gilbadak won an enthusiastic response from subscribers with backpacking content about traveling around the world on a small budget. However, uploads stopped completely after a video about a trip to India about a year ago, leaving fans worried. With no contact for a long time, some have voiced concern that Gilbadak may have become caught up in a crime locally.
As the controversy grew, a post reporting that Gilbadak was alive appeared in YouTube’s community section three months ago. The post at the time said, “I finished my trip safely and I’m alive. I burned out trying to make good videos, and what I kept telling myself I’d get to eventually ended up turning into this. I’m sorry for making you worry.”
Even so, suspicions did not die down. People pointed out that the post was completely unlike Gilbadak’s usual writing style, which often used multiple punctuation marks, and found it suspicious that it went out of its way to say, “Nothing happened in India,” seemingly denying rumors of involvement in a crime.
Against this backdrop, interest appears to be growing further now that a broadcaster has also publicly begun searching for Gilbadak’s whereabouts.
Subscribers waiting for news from Gilbadak expressed concern, saying, “I sincerely hope they’re safe,” “Could it be that the production team also noticed something suspicious and is receiving tips?” and “I hope nothing bad has happened.”
