[Financial News] Tongmyong University and its labor union recently reached a dramatic agreement on the collective and wage agreements, which had been under negotiation for more than a year, bringing the talks to a close. This ended lengthy negotiations that had lasted exactly 435 days.
Tongmyong University said on the 22nd that it held a signing ceremony for the collective and wage agreements on the 21st with the Tongmyong University branch of the National University Workers’ Union.
The two sides began their first round of negotiations on March 13 last year and went on to hold 22 rounds of main negotiations and several rounds of working-level talks. Although differences of opinion between labor and management led to difficulties at times, they reached a final agreement through sustained dialogue and mutual concessions.
The agreement is significant in that it resolves a prolonged labor-management conflict and lays the groundwork for cooperation to ensure stable university operations and improve the rights and interests of faculty and staff.
The university plans to use the agreement as an opportunity to further strengthen communication and cooperation between labor and management, and to work toward the university’s sustainable development and a healthy organizational culture.
President Lee Sang-cheon said, "With this agreement as a starting point, we will build a university where all members take pride and grow together, grounded in mutual respect and trust," adding, "As we approach the 50th anniversary of the university’s founding in 2027, we will prepare to take a leap toward the next 50 years, based on harmony between labor and management."
