[Financial News] A driver who caused a wrong-way crash while driving a truck under the influence and then fled reportedly asked the victim to let them go, saying they lived in the same neighborhood. A police alcohol test found the driver heavily intoxicated, and they are also being investigated for allegedly failing to take action after the crash, among other things.
On the 21st, JTBC’s ‘Scandal Supervisor’ reported that the crash occurred in September on a farm road in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province. The program aired details of the crash experienced by the victimized driver and the other driver’s actions.
At the time, the victim was driving along the farm road and attempting to turn right when they collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck, however, fled without stopping after the crash.
After chasing the truck for some time, the victim managed to catch up with the other driver.
The truck driver was reportedly so drunk at the time that they could barely keep their balance. After meeting the victim, the driver claimed not to know that a crash had occurred and said, “We live in the same neighborhood, so please just let me go.”
When the driver left again, the victim called the police.
Police responded to the call and conducted an alcohol test, which found the truck driver heavily intoxicated.
Repairs to the victim’s damaged vehicle were estimated to cost about 1.2 million won, and the victim had the repairs done through their own auto insurance.
According to the ‘Scandal Supervisor’ production team, police are investigating the truck driver not only for driving under the influence but also for speeding, crossing the center line, and whether they failed to take action after the crash.
