[Financial News] Hyundai Motor is using electric buses as “moving classrooms” in Indonesia to help close gaps in access to education. The program will visit 13 middle schools in Jakarta with limited educational infrastructure and provide science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education to around 1,300 students. The plan is to turn vehicles from mere means of transportation into educational spaces and narrow regional disparities in education.
Hyundai Motor said on the 22nd that it held a launch event for Hyundai Universal Solution the previous day at Hyundai Motorstudio Senayan Park in Jakarta, Indonesia, with key local stakeholders, students and teachers in attendance, officially kicking off the project.
Hyundai Universal Solution is a corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at improving access to essential social services, including education, healthcare and welfare, through mobility solutions tailored to local social challenges.
The project is being carried out jointly with Save the Children, an international NGO for children’s rights. It will target 13 middle schools in northern and eastern Jakarta, where educational infrastructure is relatively limited. Around 1,300 middle school students and 130 teachers are expected to participate.
The program will use an electric bus fitted with equipment such as tables and tablet PCs. The bus will travel from school to school to run educational programs, giving students learning opportunities without the need to build separate educational facilities.
The educational content was developed to align with Indonesia’s local curriculum. It will use educational videos, interactive content based on the Minecraft game, and hands-on teaching materials such as card games and puzzles to help students understand the principles behind electric vehicles, the environment and energy. The program aims to deepen students’ understanding of STEM through direct participation.
Support for teachers will also be provided to ensure the program goes beyond a one-off educational experience. Hyundai plans to provide educational modules with instructions on using the learning content and guidance on running classes, so that schools can continue to conduct lessons on their own after the project ends.
Hyundai Motor expects the initiative to expand students’ opportunities to learn about future mobility while helping narrow regional disparities in educational infrastructure.
A Hyundai Motor representative said, “Through Hyundai Universal Solution, we aim to provide new educational experiences to students who have not been able to fully enjoy learning opportunities because of limitations in educational infrastructure. We will continue to listen to the challenges faced by diverse communities around the world and work persistently to ensure that more people can access essential social services through tailored mobility solutions.”
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor announced Hyundai Continue, a global Creating Shared Value (CSV) program focused on eco-friendliness, mobility and future generations, in 2022 and continues its social contribution activities in Korea and abroad.
