[Financial News] The number of heirs to multi-unit buildings in Seoul rose by at least 8% in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period a year earlier. More than half of all heirs were in their 50s and 60s, the data showed.
On the 22nd, an analysis by real estate data platform Jipum of data from the Supreme Court Registration Information Plaza showed that a total of 7,989 heirs filed applications for ownership-transfer registration through inheritance for multi-unit buildings in Seoul’s 25 districts in the third quarter of 2026. That was up by 640, or 8.7%, from 7,349 in the same period last year. By month, the number was 2,906 in July, 2,585 in August and 2,498 in September, staying above the year-earlier levels for each month and continuing to rise throughout the quarter.
Heirs in their 50s and 60s made up by far the largest shares. There were 2,667 heirs aged 50 to 59, up 13.5% from the same period a year earlier, while the number of heirs aged 60 to 69 rose 13.9% to 1,816. Together, the two age groups totaled 4,483, accounting for 56.1% of all heirs in Seoul.

Compared with the same period a year earlier, the number of heirs rose in some districts and fell in others. Gangnam-gu recorded the largest increase, with 268 more heirs than last year, followed by Nowon District (+108) and Guro District (+94). Yangcheon-gu saw the largest decline, with 113 fewer heirs, while Songpa-gu (-64) and Yeongdeungpo-gu (-52) also recorded decreases.
