On the 22nd, Hyundai Motor Company said it received 15,045 orders on the first day bookings opened for the All-New Hyundai Tucson. That was about 39% more than the 10,842 orders received on the first day for the fourth-generation Tucson, launched in September 2020. The new model is the first full redesign in six years since the fourth generation. Hyundai Motor Company described the figure as the highest number of orders ever for a Tucson.
By trim, the shares were 44% for Inspiration, 33% for the base H-Pick trim, 22% for Exclusive and 1% for XRT, which adds a distinctive design based on Exclusive. Inspiration’s share rose from 29% to 44%. It comes standard with Pleos Connect, built around a 17-inch display, Highway Driving Assist 2 and dual wireless smartphone charging.
By powertrain, the share of hybrid selections rose to 55% from 48% for the previous Tucson, surpassing gasoline models. Hyundai Motor Company said a key factor in the hybrid’s popularity was its next-generation system, which boosts both peak output and fuel economy. The gasoline model gains 13 horsepower in peak output with a high-capacity turbocharger and is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The base trim also gained more standard features. Hyundai Motor Company said it made Pleos Connect and wireless software updates (over-the-air, or OTA) standard, and that an open app marketplace can broaden the in-car experience.
Safety features made standard also include redundant power for door unlocking, a first for Hyundai Motor Company, pedal misapplication safety assist, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, emergency braking in Park with the electronic shift-by-wire (SBW) lever, and nine airbags. Convenience features such as the Surround View Monitor with Transparent View, front and rear parking collision-avoidance assist, and Walk-Away Lock are standard as well.
A Hyundai Motor Company representative said, “The All-New Hyundai Tucson offers strong product appeal starting with the base trim, built on its design and spaciousness,” adding, “We will continue to put customers first and deliver greater value.”
