【Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong】Kia Tigers professional baseball players KIM Do-young and Park Jae-hyun have drawn attention for donating supplies for the dogs at Peace Meongmeong, an abandoned-dog adoption center in Dong District, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Metropolitan City), and putting their warm generosity into action.
Peace Meongmeong is an urban abandoned-dog adoption center established in Bullo-dong in 2025 by Dong District, Gwangju Metropolitan City, using Hometown Love Donation funds. The center promotes the adoption of abandoned dogs and helps them meet new families. It is operated by Peace Winds Korea, a specialized private organization. It also leads efforts to increase adoptions and foster a responsible pet culture through socialization training for abandoned dogs, adoption counseling and activities to improve public awareness of companion animals.
According to Dong District, Gwangju Metropolitan City, on the 22nd, KIM Do-young and Park Jae-hyun sent dog food, supplements, mist and potty pads through their agency and a sponsoring company, asking that the items be used for the dogs at Peace Meongmeong.
A Dong District official emphasized, “This donation was made in keeping with the wishes of the two players, who have always had a particular affection for animals,” adding, “It is especially meaningful that the warm support of professional baseball players with local ties has reached an abandoned-dog adoption center established with citizens’ Hometown Love Donation funds.”
KIM Do-young and Park Jae-hyun are in fact close friends. After it became known that they had recently set out to find the natural-monument-designated Eurasian otters living in Gwangjucheon, baseball fans know them as the “Otter Brothers.”
KIM Do-young has also moved fans with his generosity off the field, following his outstanding performance against the LG Twins in the recent semi-playoffs, where he hit three home runs, was named series MVP, and helped the Kia Tigers win three straight games and advance to the playoffs. Park Jae-hyun, too, has continued his dynamic play, greatly contributing to the team’s upward momentum.
Dong District chief Im Taek said, “I’m grateful that KIM Do-young and Park Jae-hyun, who are delivering great performances on the field, have shared their warm support with Peace Meongmeong in our district,” adding, “I hope their positive influence will lead to greater interest in protecting and adopting abandoned animals.”
