“I Made 4 Billion Won in Six Months, but...” Hwang Jung-eum: “My Current Income Is 0 Won”

[Financial News] Actress Hwang Jung-eum said that after suspending her acting career, she had no income and sold the gold she received at her two sons’ first-birthday celebrations, and even canceled her insurance. She had previously said that her bank balance grew by 4 billion won in just six months through advertising income and other earnings while she was appearing in the sitcom High Kick Through the Roof. Now, she revealed, her income is 0 won.
A video titled “A Day of Getting Bombarded with Questions from the Goldies” was posted on Hwang Jung-eum’s YouTube channel on the 21st. She talked about her recent life while answering questions from subscribers.
In the video, when a subscriber asked, “You’re taking a break from acting. Where does your income come from?”, Hwang Jung-eum replied, “My income is 0 won.”
Hwang Jung-eum said that because she had been working for a long time, the sudden loss of income made her afraid. “It was the first time I hadn’t earned money since I was 26, so I was very flustered and scared,” she said.
She reportedly also sold gold she had been holding to cover her living expenses.
“I actually sold all the gold. You know, the gold you can get money for. Real gold!” Hwang Jung-eum said, adding that she had even sold the gold she received at her two sons’ first-birthday celebrations. She continued, “I actually sold everything I received at Wang-sik and Gang-sik’s first-birthday celebrations.”
She said she was also using money from canceling her insurance to cover living expenses. “I canceled my insurance, and it turned out to bring in a lot of money,” Hwang Jung-eum said. “So I’m managing to get by with that.”
On how to stay positive even in difficult circumstances, she said, “Even in the worst situation, look for the good thing you can take away from it.”
She also talked about a time when she was struggling financially. Hwang Jung-eum said that even when her bank balance was just 500 won, she set a goal of buying a building worth in the 10-billion-won range and wrote it down.
Previously, Hwang Jung-eum was put on trial on charges of embezzling approximately 4.3 billion won from a corporation she owned. In September last year, she was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for four years.
She repaid the full amount embezzled before the ruling. Hwang Jung-eum sold personal assets and other property and repaid the amount in two payments, in May and June last year.
Hwang Jung-eum has currently suspended her acting career and is keeping in touch with fans through her YouTube channel.
