【Financial News, Hongcheon = Kim Gi-seop, reporter】A festival where even residents unfamiliar with books can enjoy hands-on activities, performances and author talks and naturally grow closer to reading will be held in Hongcheon this weekend.
According to Hongcheon County on the 22nd, Hongcheon County Library will hold the 8th Hongcheon Book Festival on the 24th, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the area around Yeonbong Library. This year's slogan is “I'm clueless about books, but I want to read,” and the festival will focus on offering a variety of reading-related experiences to residents who still find books difficult to approach.
The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Hands-on activity booths, a reading challenge, an outdoor library, a flea market and an AI photo zone will run throughout the day. Musical performances, busking and magic shows will also take place on stage, giving families a chance to enjoy the festival together.
This year, the festival has teamed up with the Check-in Library program and added an author talk. At 2 p.m. that day, author Go Myeong-hwan will share with the audience how reading helped him overcome crises and change the direction of his life, in the auditorium on the second floor of the Hongcheon County Cultural Center (Hongcheon Cultural Center). In addition to those who registered in advance, festivalgoers can attend the talk by registering on site.
Lee Seong-hui, head of Hongcheon County's Education and Sports Division, said, “We've packed the program with plenty to enjoy without pressure, even for those who don't know much about books—from a reading challenge and an outdoor library to an author talk by Go Myeong-hwan.” Lee added, “I hope this festival will be a starting point for residents to feel more at ease crossing the threshold of the county library.”
