【Financial News, Gangneung = Kim Gi-seop】The area around Anmok Beach in Gangneung is set to reach the weekend’s coffee festival peak, as 100 coffee flavors brewed by 100 people using beans and brewing tools of their own choosing are joined by fireworks set to light up the autumn night sky above the breakwater at Gangneung Port.
According to the Gangneung Cultural Foundation on the 22nd, the 18th Gangneung Coffee Festival, which opened on the 21st, will continue through the 25th along Gangneung Coffee Street and across Gangneung. A series of signature festival programs are scheduled for the weekend, and more visitors are expected to flock to the event.
The main attraction is “100 People, 100 Flavors,” taking place at the Global Coffee Lounge at 2 p.m. on the 24th. In this large-scale hand-drip performance, 100 participants brew coffee simultaneously in one place, giving visitors a chance to compare the flavors and aromas produced by different beans and brewing methods.
At 8 p.m. that day, fireworks will be launched from the breakwater at Gangneung Port to light up the weekend night. The “A Starry Night” program, held each day of the festival from 6 to 8 p.m. on the sandy beach along Gangneung Coffee Street, invites visitors to sit on a beach decorated with atmospheric lighting, gaze at the night sea and sky, and enjoy coffee.

At the Songjeong Pine Grove Coffee Picnic Zone, “Sea 24 Hours: Book Trip,” featuring books and music, will run as a special weekend program. Broadcaster Noh Hong-chul will take the stage on the 24th, and musician and writer Yozoh on the 25th, each holding a book concert from 1 to 3 p.m. An outdoor bookstore will be set up, alongside a 200-character writing contest and a postcard event.
There will be no pause in the beachside entertainment, either. Anmok Coffee Radio will share visitors’ stories and song requests, along with stories about coffee and music, while busking performances continue at spots across the beach throughout the weekend.
Visitors will also be able to sample and buy coffee that showcases Gangneung’s distinctive character. At “All Sorts of Gangneung Coffee,” signature coffees offered by local cafes will be available for free sampling four times a day, while “All Sorts of Coffee Beans” will offer beans and drip bags from local roastery cafes at a 10% discount.
Families can relax over coffee and desserts at Songjeong Pine Grove Coffee Picnic. Activities for children to enjoy with their families, including a kids’ playground and Coffee Field Day, are also planned.
The foundation encouraged visitors to use public transportation or the free circular shuttle buses, as vehicle access will be restricted on some sections of Gangneung Coffee Street during the festival. Details on the schedule, transportation and parking are available on the Gangneung Coffee Festival’s official website.
“From the hand-drip showcase ‘100 People, 100 Flavors’ to book concerts by Noh Hong-chul and Yozoh and fireworks on the breakwater, attractions will unfold all weekend against the backdrop of the autumn sea,” a foundation official said. “As vehicle access will be restricted on some sections, we hope you’ll take the shuttle bus and enjoy the festival at your leisure through the 25th, its closing day.”
