[Financial News] People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk criticized President Lee Jae Myung on the 22nd, saying, “He’s gone so far as to make even Gemini a friend of the president,” and, “He used to say social media was his lifeline, and now it’s come to this: begging AI to save his life.” President Lee said on the 21st that Gemini had told him it was lawful for the head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency to sit in on a Cabinet meeting, prompting an intensifying offensive from the opposition.
At a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Jang said, “It seems the president is now having trouble even finding a friend to take his side,” and made the remarks.
He criticized the president, saying, “All media, conservative and liberal alike, are criticizing the attendance of heads of investigative agencies, including the head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, at Cabinet meetings. Even the People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy has criticized it as undermining fairness.” He added, “And yet the president is indulging in a one-man exercise in self-delusion, saying Gemini called it unconstitutional sophistry.”
“Is now the time for the president to be sitting there glued to Gemini? People are on the verge of being overwhelmed by soaring home prices and turmoil in the jeonse and monthly rental markets,” Jang said sarcastically. “They say supply will return to normal by 2028, but are people supposed to be left out on the street until next year?” He added, “He seems to think houses will just appear if the president orders ‘shut up and supply.’ A reckless, supply-at-all-costs push will only worsen market turmoil and real estate distress.”
Jang also claimed, “I asked Gemini once, too. I asked what should be done about President Lee’s trial.” He added, “It says the trial should obviously resume. The only answer the public wants now is the resumption of President Lee’s trial.”
Jang criticized the ‘Samsung Electronics and SK hynix’ single-stock leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF), for which individual investors’ losses were estimated to be around 6 trillion won as of mid-August, calling it “a joint project by Kim Yong-beom, Lee Eok-won and Lee Chan-jin.” He added, “They even carried out a cursory review to fit the local election schedule. They have already intervened and abused their authority, but now that a problem has erupted, they say it is difficult for the government to intervene.”
Ahead of the local elections, “They mobilized the National Pension Service to the fullest to prop up the stock market, postponed rebalancing and sharply raised the target allocation for domestic stocks. These are things that could not have happened without a decision by the president,” he pointed out.
Jang urged, “If the National Pension Service was illegally mobilized to win the election, that is clearly grounds for impeachment and a serious crime. A parliamentary investigation and a special prosecutor’s probe should be launched to uncover the truth before it is too late.”
