[Financial News] Gmarket is preparing for its biggest shopping festival of the year, Big Smile Day, by using artificial intelligence (AI) to select special-deal products and significantly expand the range of discounted items.
According to industry sources on the 22nd, Gmarket will hold Big Smile Day for 12 days, from November 2 to 13. This year, the event will introduce an AI-powered system for selecting special-deal products and triple the existing number of products in special deals.
Gmarket is focusing on using AI to analyze product reviews, actual sales performance and seasonal demand, among other factors, to identify and feature products that customers prefer. The system analyzes seasonal products whose demand rises ahead of winter and daily necessities that have received strong ratings from customers who purchased them, and selects them for special deals.
Gmarket will also draw on the planning expertise of its professional merchandisers (MDs). MDs will personally select products whose competitiveness is difficult to assess based on sales data alone, such as new products being unveiled for the first time at Big Smile Day, exclusive specially planned products and limited-quantity special deals.
The number of products in special deals will also triple, from about 1,000 to around 3,000. The plan is to broaden customers’ choices by showcasing a wide range of competitive products regardless of brand recognition or previous sales volume, while expanding sellers’ opportunities to gain exposure for their products.
A Gmarket representative said, “At this Big Smile Day, we plan to use AI to select special-deal products more precisely and showcase a wide range of products that will catch customers’ attention. By expanding the scale of special deals and refining product selection, we will work to improve customer shopping satisfaction and ensure that sellers’ excellent products are introduced to more customers.”
