[Financial News] Samsung Electro-Mechanics received a Presidential Commendation at the government awards in recognition of its eco-friendly management achievements, including carbon neutrality and resource circulation.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on the 22nd that it received a Presidential Commendation in the Green Industry and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Management category at the government awards for contributions to the 2026 Promotion of Green Technology and Consumption, held on the 21st.
The government awards are hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute. Companies and institutions that have contributed to environmental improvement through the development of eco-friendly technologies, product manufacturing and the expansion of green consumption are selected and honored. The awards have been held annually since 2008.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics was highly rated for its ongoing environmental management efforts, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions from product manufacturing and expanding resource recycling. As of last year, the company had obtained and maintained Environmental Product Declaration certifications for a total of 23 products. The Environmental Product Declaration is a national certification system that quantifies and discloses a product’s environmental impacts throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction through production, distribution, use and disposal.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Samsung Electro-Mechanics installed process-gas reduction equipment in its production processes and secured domestic and overseas renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPAs) and renewable energy certificates (RECs), among other measures, cutting about 340,000 tons (t) of greenhouse gas emissions.
In resource circulation, the company recycled waste alkali and waste acid as neutralizing chemicals for wastewater treatment, using a total of 3,431 tons. It is also working to expand waste recycling, including having 6,501 tons of waste recognized as recyclable resources.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has made “Sustainable Challenges for a Better Planet and Life” its ESG management goal and is pursuing four key priorities: protecting the environment, creating sustainable value, fostering shared growth with local communities and improving corporate governance.
The company has also continued to perform well in global ESG assessments. It has been included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class (DJBIC) World Index for 17 consecutive years, the longest such streak in Korea, and has appeared in the FTSE4Good Index for 15 consecutive years. In the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change category, it has been selected for the Platinum Club, the highest rating, eight times.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics President Jang Deok-hyun said, “ESG management is essential for companies to achieve sustained growth,” adding, “We will continue to pursue sustainable management, actively responding to climate change and working to minimize our environmental impact.”
