[Financial News] Comedian Jo Hye-ryun sharply criticized her colleague Kim Soo-yong’s stock investment approach.
Appearing on the YouTube channel “Money in the Trap” on the 20th, Jo Hye-ryun talked about stocks with Seo Dong-ju, an American lawyer and broadcaster, and discussed the missteps she had experienced during the investment process and the risks of short-term trading.
Jo Hye-ryun, who shared how she gave back her gains by chasing the price even after buying SK hynix shares at a low, brought up Kim Soo-yong’s case while discussing short-term trading.
Jo Hye-ryun said, “I saw a recent article saying Kim Soo-yong had traded several tens of billions of won, but made 100 million won.” Seo Dong-ju was astonished, saying, “So most of the trading volume came from Kim Soo-yong.”
Jo Hye-ryun brought up Kim Soo-yong’s trading record, saying, “I heard he did a huge amount of short-term trading and, after all the ups and downs, made 100 million won.” She then quipped, “At that point, you’d be better off working part-time at a kimbap shop.”
Seo Dong-ju replied, “That’s actually very impressive, because people usually lose money when they do that much short-term trading,” adding, “But making 100 million won despite that means he’s quite skilled in his own way.”
But Jo Hye-ryun joked, “He probably lost money elsewhere while running other businesses too,” and added, “Those dark circles have come down this far because of all that short-term trading,” prompting laughter.
Kim Soo-yong had previously disclosed the value of his stock trades over the six years from July 1, 2020, to July 14, 2026, on the recently released Netflix variety show “Retail Investor Kim Won-hoon: The World of Stocks.”
The stock account Kim Soo-yong showed at the time recorded total purchases of about 21.1 billion won and total sales of about 23.9 billion won over six years, with realized gains of about 112 million won.
