[Financial News] Broadcaster Baek Ji-yeon opened up about the aging she has felt since entering her 60s and how her eating habits have changed.
In a video released on her YouTube channel on the 19th, Baek Ji-yeon talked about aging.
That day, she began by saying, “They say people age dramatically at 44 and 60,” then added, “I’m still in my early 60s, but this is the age when I’m experiencing an aging spike.” She continued, “Desserts, sweet coffee, and ice cream loaded with sugar are so delicious and sweet. But when unnecessary sugar overflows in our bodies, that’s what makes us age.”
Baek Ji-yeon said, “These things break down the collagen muscles in my skin,” and explained, “When those muscles break down, the sagging we hate so much appears. That’s why, as we get older, we should think, ‘That’s poison.’”
She said she is working hard to manage her diet to slow aging, and advised, “I’ve always loved desserts like bread and tteok. I feel bad for my body, so these days I’m really trying not to eat them as much as possible. Instead, I need to build muscle and eat good protein.”
One cause of skin aging is a decrease in collagen. Collagen is a major component of the skin’s dermis and plays an important role in maintaining skin elasticity and structure. As we age, the function of fibroblasts, which produce collagen, declines, reducing the amount of collagen produced in the body. This causes the skin to lose elasticity and makes wrinkles more likely to form. Therefore, getting enough nutrients, including protein and vitamin C, which are needed for collagen synthesis, is important for maintaining skin health.
To slow skin aging, it is important to reduce consumption of foods that can accelerate it. Sugars and refined carbohydrates are among the main culprits. Particular care should be taken with desserts that are high in both.
According to a paper published in 2010 in the international journal *Clinics in Dermatology* by F. William Danby, a researcher in dermatology at Dartmouth Medical School in the United States, fructose can trigger glycation reactions in collagen and elastin, forming advanced glycation end products (AGEs). If cross-linking between collagen fibers increases in this process, skin tissue can become stiff and normal repair of damaged collagen can become more difficult. The researcher explained that these glycation reactions may affect skin aging and that they are accelerated as sugar levels in the body rise.
Baek Ji-yeon was born in August 1964 and is now 62. She joined MBC in 1987 as an announcer recruited through its open recruitment process and became a freelancer after leaving in 1999.
