[Financial News]  Former professional baseball player Lee Yong-gyu, 41, who caused a drunk-driving accident, has been indicted.
According to News 1 and other outlets on the 21st, the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Lee without detention on charges of causing injury through dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving.
At around 6:25 a.m. on June 12, Lee was driving his passenger car while heavily intoxicated on a six-lane, two-way road in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, when he struck a passenger car making a U-turn from the opposite direction.
At the time, Lee was driving straight through a red light when he collided with a passenger car making a U-turn from the opposite direction on a green light. The force of the collision pushed Lee’s car into a patrol car parked by the roadside.
Two people were reportedly lightly injured in the crash, including the male driver in his 60s who was in the car making the U-turn and a police officer in the patrol car.

Lee’s blood alcohol concentration, measured shortly after the accident, was reportedly at the level for license revocation (0.08% or higher).
Lee admitted to all the charges during the investigation.
Lee, who was a playing coach for the Kiwoom Heroes at the time, told the team after the accident that he intended to retire. The team accepted his decision, and he ultimately retired in disgrace.
