[Financial News] Kim Yo Jong, a WPK Central Committee department chief, threatened on the 22nd that new countermeasures were being placed on standby in all border areas and that broadcasts over loudspeakers aimed at South Korea would also be prepared within days.
She also openly mocked the Blue House’s special adviser on defense policy, accusing him of making groundless claims.
Kim threatened through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that day, saying, “Regarding the presumptuous response issued on the 21st by the person called the Blue House special adviser on defense policy, I am sending the following warning once again in the early hours of the 22nd.”
She claimed, “The only way those shameless, ignorant, irrational and illogical imbeciles who brazenly meddle in our affairs can take issue with our rightful measures is by making groundless claims, as they always have.”
She went on to sneer, “A frightened dog has to bark to save what little face it has.” She also said she had dealt with the Moon Jae-in and Yoon Suk Yeol administrations, but had never seen anyone as foolish and pathetic as those who had thrown their lot in with the Lee Jae Myung administration. Kim said, “Officials in the Blue House and the government are fools, all cut from the same cloth,” and warned, “The person called the Blue House special adviser on defense policy should stop rambling incoherently.” She added that their new countermeasures would be placed on mission standby along the entire border, and that loudspeakers aimed at South Korea would also be put on standby within days.
Kim Byung-ju, the president’s special adviser on defense policy and a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, said the previous day, “Director Kim Yo Jong, don’t grab hostile loudspeakers with the hand that planted landmines.”
Rep. Kim posted this on Facebook and said, “Our service members have bled because of North Korea’s provocations. The United Nations Command (UNC) also determined that North Korea violated the Korean Armistice Agreement. Yet Kim Yo Jong insists, with blatant lies, that it was a self-staged act and threatens us with loudspeakers. It is a brazen, shameless attempt to turn the blame around.”
Rep. Kim said, “North Korea must immediately apologize for its provocations against the South and take responsibility,” and warned, “The North Korean regime will bear the full cost of violating the history of peace.” He added, “Forewarned is forearmed. Our military must maintain an ironclad posture and prepare without leaving the slightest opening,” and said, “The moment North Korea acts recklessly, it must be punished immediately.”
Meanwhile, North Korea has pursued and considered deploying tactical strike assets in the inter-Korean border area, including weapons systems capable of carrying tactical nuclear warheads.
South Korean military authorities believe North Korea is pursuing and preparing to deploy border-area systems including 600-mm super-large multiple rocket launchers, new 240-mm multiple rocket launchers and tactical missiles, which it claims can carry the Hwasan-31 tactical nuclear warhead.
With ranges of around 400 km, these weapons would be capable of striking anywhere in South Korea if deployed in the border area.
