[Financial News] A, the wife of the late Kang Ji-yong, a former professional soccer player who appeared on JTBC’s variety show “Divorce Re-Boot Camp,” recently posted an emotional message on social media sharply criticizing someone.
On the 21st, A responded sharply in a post on social media: “The problem is the person who made a promise they couldn’t keep from the outset. It’s your fault for lying under the pretext of that promise, so why make the person who trusted you feel worthless?”
She continued, “Say only what you can stand by. I want to ask who is determined to push things to the brink,” adding, “I’ve never said anything I didn’t know, and I’ve never lied. And I’m not afraid.” She also wrote, “I hope you feel ashamed always, wherever you are, for as long as you live.”
A did not specify whom she was criticizing. However, since she has continued to raise issues, including financial disputes with her in-laws, following her husband’s death, some speculate that this post is also aimed at his family.
Earlier, A engaged in a heated exchange after sharing messages she had exchanged with her mother-in-law and bank deposit records following her husband’s death. The messages released at the time contained conflicting claims about what happened to the money he earned as a player and a past debt-guarantee issue involving his older brother. A also suggested she might take legal action over what she called distorted claims, saying, “I have call recordings and other materials that can prove the facts.”
A also expressed anguish over the way people around them looked at her young child. She said, “The child has done nothing wrong. Please don’t whisper in front of the child. They understand everything,” and added, “We are not criminals. Please don’t make us feel self-conscious when we’re with the child.”
The late Kang Ji-yong was selected by Pohang Steelers in 2009 and made his professional debut. He went on to play as a defender for Busan IPark, Bucheon FC 1995, Gangwon FC and Incheon United, among other clubs, before leaving the game in 2022.
The couple appeared on “Divorce Re-Boot Camp” in February 2025 and spoke about managing the hundreds of millions of won Kang earned during his playing career, as well as conflicts with his family, in an attempt to repair their relationship. But about two months after the show aired, Kang suddenly died in April of the previous year, leaving many saddened. After news of his death broke, the broadcaster completely suspended its replay service for his episodes.
