【Financial News, Gangneung = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Gangneung City, showcasing a smart mobility model for smaller cities, expanded global cooperation at the halfway point of the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress, holding a series of meetings with delegations from Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States.
According to Gangneung City on the 21st, a city delegation led by Mayor Kim Jung-nam met that day, the third day of the 2026 Gangneung Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress, with delegations from ITS Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States who had come to the congress venue, as well as senior officials from across the continents, including representatives of the UK Department for Transport. They discussed a vision for the future of global mobility. The congress, the world’s largest event in this field, is being held in and around Gangneung Olympic Park, drawing crowds of visitors day after day and sustaining the excitement.
At the meetings, the city gave a detailed presentation of the future vision for the Gangneung congress, including its experience developing a smart mobility model suited to smaller cities and next-generation transport policies based on its transportation infrastructure. It also expressed its gratitude to delegations from each continent for their generous support and participation in preparing for the congress. The delegations spoke highly of Gangneung City’s advanced transportation technology and level of event preparation, and agreed to continue exchanges and cooperation.
That evening, the Gala Dinner, the congress’s signature official banquet, was held at 6 p.m. in the Convention Hall of the Gangneung Convention Center. With around 500 prominent figures and experts from Korea and abroad in attendance, celebratory performances took place, and participants from around the world mingled freely and exchanged views on the future development of mobility. They strengthened global networks and celebrated the successful progress of the congress together. The congress will continue through its closing on the 23rd with cutting-edge technology exhibitions, autonomous driving demonstrations, an ice show, a K-music concert and more.
Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam said, “The citizens who patiently endured traffic congestion around the venue, kept things orderly and came to Olympic Park themselves to fill the empty seats are the biggest contributors to this congress.” He added, “The delegations from around the world praised Gangneung’s technology and level of preparation thanks to the citizens, so please enjoy the autonomous driving demonstrations, ice show and K-music concert to your heart’s content through Friday’s closing, and help us bring this future mobility festival to life together.”
