[Financial News] Hanyang University announced on the 21st that it had successfully held '2026 Major Fair HY, Major!' on the 19th in the main conference room at HIT on its Seoul Campus, where students could meet faculty members from various departments in person to discuss curricula and career paths.
The fair was organized to promote the self-directed major system Hanyang University introduced to foster interdisciplinary talent in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). Organized by Hanyang YK Intercollege, the event was open to all undergraduates on the Seoul Campus and drew participation from 30 departments and programs across six colleges.
The fair provided undergraduates interested in choosing, changing or combining majors with information on each department's curriculum, the qualities it seeks in students, and career paths. Professors and senior students from 30 departments served as advisers, helping students plan their studies proactively through one-on-one consultations and small-group conversations (coffee chats). Hanyang University improved the quality of consultations by introducing advance reservations and a question-based format.
The event is significant as a starting point for student-led major exploration linked to the Major Selection upon Graduation system, which is scheduled to take effect from the 2027 academic year. Hanyang YK Intercollege, which organized the event, is a college of interdisciplinary education that supports students in choosing a primary major based on their aptitudes after enrollment and connecting it with a range of academic disciplines. Established in 2025 as Hanyang Intercollege, it was renamed in 2026.
Kim Jin-su, dean of Hanyang YK Intercollege, said, “Choosing a major is an important process that goes beyond simply deciding on an academic field: students discover their own aptitudes and potential and plan for the future.” He added, “We will continue to expand support for major exploration and interdisciplinary education so that students can gain broad experience beyond disciplinary boundaries and shape their futures independently.”
