[Financial News]  A dedicated website will launch where families of victims and survivors of the 10·29 Itaewon disaster can find information about victim-support programs and memorial projects in one place and contact the staff in charge directly.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 21st that it will begin operating the “10·29 Itaewon Disaster Victim Relief, Memorial and Support Website” (1029itaewondisaster.go.kr) on the 22nd, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Itaewon disaster.
Until now, information on victim support and memorial activities has been available through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s website. The dedicated website was developed starting in May this year, after funding was secured in response to requests from bereaved families last year. The website provides information needed by bereaved families and victims, including eligibility for victim support, application procedures and required documents. It also provides updates on memorial projects and event schedules.
The website includes a one-on-one Q&A feature through which staff responsible for the relevant work respond directly when bereaved families and victims submit inquiries about victim support or memorial projects. Users are notified when a response is posted so they can check the outcome.
It will also host a space where bereaved families and victims can communicate, exchange views and share information.
A multilingual service is also available for foreign bereaved families and victims. The five supported languages are English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Persian. The measure aims to ease difficulties in accessing information caused by language barriers and help users understand victim-support programs more easily.
Shin Gi-dong, head of the 10·29 Itaewon Disaster Victim Relief, Memorial and Support Group, said, “I hope this will help, even a little, bereaved families and victims get answers to their questions more easily, communicate with one another, heal the pain of the disaster and return to their daily lives.”
