[Financial News] Kolon Industries will invest approximately 70 billion won to build an airbag fabric production plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It plans to complete the plant in June 2027 and begin supplying fabric to global automotive safety-parts company Autoliv in January 2028. Its goal is to generate annual revenue of at least 50 billion won at the new plant starting in 2030.
Kolon Industries said on the 21st that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for an airbag fabric production plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on the 20th. The new plant is being built under a contract to supply airbag fabric that Kolon Industries signed with Autoliv last December.
The new plant is scheduled for completion next June, and product supplies to Autoliv will begin in January 2028. Kolon Industries plans to stabilize production and expand supply volumes by 2029, and expects the new plant to generate annual revenue of at least 50 billion won starting in 2030.
Kolon Industries’ existing plant in Vietnam has produced airbag cushions using fabric made in Korea and China. With this investment, the company plans to install new weaving, processing and coating equipment at the Vietnam plant, establishing an integrated production system covering everything from fabric production to airbag cushion manufacturing.
Kolon Industries President Sung Huh said, “The investment in a new plant in Vietnam is aimed at ensuring a stable supply of airbag materials to Autoliv, one of our major customers.”
