Able Music Group, an integrated chamber ensemble of musicians with and without disabilities, to hold its ninth annual concert

[Financial News] Able Music Group, a chamber ensemble bringing together musicians with and without disabilities, will take the stage with world-renowned guitarist Park Gyu-hee.
The incorporated association Able Art announced on the 21st that it will hold the ninth Able Music Group annual concert at 6 p.m. on November 7 at the Gyeonggi Arts Center Small Theater. Titled “Resonance: Stand on Your Own, Resound Through the World,” the concert is expected to be a special occasion where musicians transcend disability, stand on their own as independent performers and make their voices heard, sending the resonance of love and peace out into the world.

Park Gyu-hee, who will perform as a guest soloist, is a classical guitarist who in 2008 became the first woman and Asian to win Belgium’s Printemps International Guitar Competition. After attending Yewon School and the Tokyo College of Music in Japan, she graduated at the top of her class from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2014. In 2016, she also completed the master’s program in classical guitar in Alicante, Spain, at the top of her class. Her strengths include her delicate tone and tremolo technique, in which she rapidly repeats a note to sustain a melody.
The concert will feature the Korean premiere of “Gift,” an original composition by Cho Wooseong. The work conveys through music feelings that could not quite be expressed in words. It captures the lives of musicians with disabilities and the time spent by those who have stood by them, through the process of different sounds coexisting and wavering before coming together again to form a single piece of music.
Cho Wooseong completed a master’s degree at the Hamburg University of Music in Germany and the advanced performance program in composition at the Hanover University of Music. He has presented orchestral and chamber works while exploring the timbres of instruments and subtle changes in sound. His orchestral work “Butterfly Effect II” was selected for the special concert marking the 15th anniversary of the 2024 ARKO Korean Creative Music Festival and performed by the Korean National Symphony Orchestra (KNSO).
Cellist and ensemble member Lee Jeong-hyeon will present “The Story of My Friend,” which Lee composed, with a video of Lee’s illustrated score. Lee was the real-life model for “Liwon,” the protagonist’s daughter who plays the cello while reading an illustrated score in director Park Chan-wook’s film “No Other Choice.”
Able Music Group was founded in 2016 as Able Art’s flagship performing arts project. Seo Jin will conduct, and the performers include leader Jang Mi-sol and concertmaster Park Su-hyeon. The musicians with disabilities taking the stage are violinists Gong Min-bae and Lee Hyeon-seong, violist Kim Yun-se, cellist Lee Jeong-hyeon, double bassist Lee Jun-young and clarinetist Min Gyeong-ho. They will be joined by professional performers: violinists Park Su-hyeon and Lee Sin-haeng, violist Lee Gyeong-won, cellist Jang Mi-sol, double bassist Park Hye-ran, clarinetist Hwang Nam-gyu and pianist Cho Si-on.
Choi Eun-gyu, host of KBS Classic FM’s “FM Live Music,” will serve as emcee and provide commentary. Pianist Son Yeol-eum is also an ambassador for Able Art.
The concert is supported by Suwon City’s Disability Culture and Arts Promotion Project, with Hyupsung University and Hwahong Hospital serving as partners. It is open to audiences aged five and older, and admission is free for all seats.
